You can have any mundane equipment you want for free, and 6000gp of masterwork and magic stuff.

 

If you take any crafting feats, you get those items for half price. If you have ranks in craft, you can have masterwork items related to that craft skill for free.  

 

For your initial magic purchases only, I'm going to make things a little cheaper than the rules say.  Ignore the price of the base item unless it's made of a special material. The base + is as listed in the tables (weapons are 2000 gp for +1, armor is 1000 for +1, 4000 for +2, etc). You can add +1 special abilities for an additional cost equal to the +1 price (2000gp each for weapons, half that for armor), but not additional "pluses". You can add a +2 equivalent trait to armor for 4000gp. If you have additional enchantments added to the item later, the cost will be figured as if you had invested the regular amount. This way, if you really want to blow all your dough on a single item, you can get +2 full plate (4000) with armor spikes(free on base item), light fortification (1000), and the spell storing ability (1000) for a mere 6000gp (all you're gonna get at this point) instead of 17,700.  

 

Also, if you want to add special effects or a minor thematic change to your items (roughly cantrip power level), feel free to do so but let me know about it.  You want a dome light in your bag of holding? super. Does you horn of blasting start to mutter unintelligibly when you haven't used it for a couple of days? Awesome. Want your staff of the magi to stay upright when you let go? Right on. Feel free to get creative. I think a leaky decanter of endless water would be hilarious. A wand of healing shaped like a dagger that only works on creatures it has damaged today? Extra 25 charges, dude, and I'll make it easy to recharge.  Some other possibilities: weapons that turn red as blood for a few minutes after dealing damage, the smell of afternoon thunderstorms and rain whenever a shocking item is used, an item that changes it's shape or appearance to stay better concealed, items that leap from your scabbard or an open pack or from an adjacent space on command and into your grasp, etc.

 

If you're willing to let me put some drawbacks on your items, I can bump up their power level a little for free.  

 

In addition to bunches of gear, everybody will start with a good pile of gold - say 400GP in cold hard cash.

 

And don't forget my favorite piece of equipment: Henchmen & Hirelings!

If you want to hire a 3rd level PC-type adventurer, he will want a half-share of any treasure recovered and will also take a portion of any XP earned.  However, you can also make him/her into a Robin to help out your Batman.

Alternately, specialists (i.e. NPC class types) can be hired for fixed daily rates depending on their level of ability, and they only ask for bonuses if they help with a rich haul, and don't suck the XP as bad as adventurers do.
